This isn't the Dean you're looking for. Probably. But this is the Dean you deserve. Not that he thinks so, not that he thinks he deserves anything. If you want anything more than a casual encounter he won't think twice about, then maybe this is not your guy. Sure, he looks after his people. Kind of. And he makes the hard decisions. Solely. Think of him as new and improved, road hard and put away apocalypse-style. He's seen some things. He's also been the things.
Don't get us wrong, he's capable of much, much more. Deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep under the hard exterior he's fashioned himself.
What he lacks in manners, self-respect, confidence, friendliness, and self awareness, he more than makes up for in delusion. If you want to talk nightmares, necessary violence, and deep-seated family drama, this is your guy! That is, you'll be doing the talking. He might grunt once or twice. But, we promise he's worth breaking in. It might just take a while.
But, don't take our word for it. Try him on for yourself. See why the word that comes to mind when we think of Dean Winchester is hard. Hard-edged, heart-hearted, barely graduating from the school of hard knocks with a chip on his shoulder. If you expect parts of him to be hard. Good luck. He's shaking off the worst five years of his life. Don't believe us? Ask him yourself. He's anything but an open book, but we hoped we cracked the door for him. All these mixed metaphors aside, we think his situation has significantly improved. He should be thanking his lucky stars for his big second chance.
