rowena will find him putting down the chairs from the tables.
bar's all set-up, TV is playing whatever's on on mute. he has some good classic rock going. something he really, really missed from being five years into the apocalypse. )
( this time she agrees, this time rowena doesn't mind that they're meeting in public and really, she wonders if this kind of setting might be better for their conversation. he'll be more occupied, she'll... maybe not be so defensive.
she's there quickly, the perks of being able to teleport, long-sleeved purple blouse and black pants, her hair fully pinned up that day. and she opts to sit at the bar, patiently for when he gets back to her )

he rounds back to the bar, sliding the glass he's currently using down the way and setting an empty twin next to it. refilling his only a bit, and filling hers a healthy amount. )
Our search histories were put on blast, Sara came to me. Simon... this Duke needed soundproofing done. Guess he and his wife share a cottage with her brother.
his comment about a bell did make her smile slightly and maybe his brand of snark she's needed in a way. a distraction, a comfort... something. plus the drink is welcome )
I suppose in some way you've also had a job before.

( he scribbles down notes for bottles he needs to grab for the wall before checking each low boy one by one, and counting.
it keeps him going. it keeps him from thinking only about what he left behind, and what's back there. what cas went back to. so, several hours a day, he occupies himself. he pours drinks. he restocks a bar.
he jots a few more product names down. 7 of those. 10 of those. )
( there's a pause, a thought of how to word what she wants because it's awkward enough. small talk didn't come so naturally to people that were wary and whilst rowena was perfectly capable of it... it's not so mich something she was used to with dean. any dean. not when they usually talked when something was happening )
But I'm trying for a better conversation than... any of our previous ones. ( building up. trying some honesty ) And whilst getting to know you doesn't quite sound possible... this place is also a different place.
( no hunting for one, no cases, none of their usual relationship. or what she had with the other dean )

( she can imagine what that meant, what ended up. he alluded to it, some. but he didn't get into it, did he. )
( she vaguely knows how many but it doesn't matter. it's less her point )
I know the hunter, the one who'll very happily tell me witches are terrible. ( to some effect. not that she corrects him often ) You're not a hunter here.

( witches are bad news. he could tell her that. he trusts her up to a point, but she's right that neither of them have a reason to go after the other one. and he hasn't hunted or been on a job in over five years. there are no jobs when every day becomes about surviving what comes next.
if he entertained the thought, and thought back to who he was at one time.
if he could hold down any job besides pool sharking and stealing identities, why wouldn't it be a bar. he would be good at it. he has the personality. he could totally get a bachelorette party of girls to do shots with him. he'd make some bar a lot of money. and himself.
but he had his work. jobs. )
It's a job. Keeps me occupied. ( his mind, his hands. ) As good a place as any.
( he's not against more odd construction jobs, but he also doesn't have the capital, does he? )
Hunting's not something you forget how to do. But, eventually, those skills - they shifted into survival skills. And those aren't getting me any cash.

( it's a small comfort. he's always liked alcohol. and it's not busy during his shifts, so it gives him the solitude he needs right now. but, no, he doesn't say any of that out loud, does he? )

It's usually quiet there, not so many visit it. But it gives me opportunities to do what I need to.

Most of the magic you've seen has been for a purpose, whether you've used it or a witch has. But... there are aspects of it that you wouldn't know, and regrettably not something every witch would follow.
( especially younger witches. maybe it's her age, maybe it's when she studied, maybe it's why )
There are traditions that have become part of my practice over my life. Some of that time I use to make those preparations.
